Yoru and the interview
What does Yoru do?
Yoru collects clues about your day from your photos, calendar events, places you stopped at, steps and more, then asks how each moment went. You can answer with the keyboard or your voice. Skip a question or say "don't write this" for anything you'd rather leave out. You decide when the interview ends.
A diary draft is built only from what you answered. Edit the text and tap "Save as final," and it is saved as that day's entry. Until you confirm, it stays a draft.
What if a clue is wrong?
On the Today screen, open "See all clues," swipe the clue you want to remove to the left, and tap "Not right." A removed clue is not used for questions or drafts. You can bring it back with "Restore removed clues."
Which devices does it work on?
iPhones running iOS 27 or later. It does not support iPad or Mac. It also works on iPhones without Apple Intelligence; see "AI" below for how AI is handled in that case.
Permissions
Which permissions are needed? Does it work without them?
The app asks for access to Photos, Calendar, Location, Health, Microphone and Speech Recognition, and Notifications when each is needed. It works without any of them, with fewer clues.
To change one later, tap its row under "Clue permissions" in the app's Settings, or open the iOS Settings app.
Do I have to allow Location "Always"?
"While Using" also works, but the app cannot record places you stop at while it is closed, so the diary map and clues will be thinner. Your location history is stored only on your iPhone.
I'd like to know exactly what each permission is for.
AI
Where does the AI run?
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, questions and drafts are written on the iPhone. On iPhones without it, and only if you agree, a summary of the clues, your answers, your drafts and similar are sent to an external AI service. What is sent and to whom is described on the consent screen and in the Privacy Policy.
I want to stop sending anything to an external AI.
In Settings, under "Sending to external AI," choose "Withdraw consent." Nothing is sent after that. To stop only photos from being sent, turn off "Let AI look at photos."
Is what I send stored?
Our relay server does not store what it receives and does not log it. The providers do not use data received through their APIs to train their models.
Let Yoru listen all day (beta)
Is my audio recorded?
No. Sounds around you are analyzed on your iPhone and discarded right away. Nothing is recorded and no transcript is saved. What remains is the kind of sound, the time, a rough location, and (only in "Detailed" mode) topic keywords.
How do I start and stop it?
Turn on "Let Yoru listen all day" in Settings and tap "Start listening." You can also start it from the widget, Control Center or the morning notification. To stop, tap "Stop" on the same screen, or use the Live Activity on the Lock Screen or in the Dynamic Island.
Does it drain the battery?
Yes. The same Settings screen shows an estimate of how much faster the battery drops while it listens. It pauses automatically when the battery is below 30%, in Low Power Mode, and during your sleep hours.
What about other people's voices?
It can hear them. Please stop it where recording or listening is unwelcome, such as meetings, hospitals or other people's homes, and follow the laws of your country or region and the rules of the place.
Data
I want to export my diary.
Use "Export journal" in Settings to save or share your entries, grouped by date, as Markdown.
I want to delete my diary or data.
In Settings under "Data," choose "Delete all journal entries and location history." This deletes your entries, location history, caches of place names and photo details, the results of "Let Yoru listen all day," clues you removed, and recap notes, all at once. It cannot be undone. To remove the ChatGPT connection, disconnect on the "Connect ChatGPT" screen.
Deleting the app removes the data on your iPhone. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Can I carry my diary over to a new iPhone?
The app does not currently sync your diary through iCloud or anything else. If you restore your new iPhone from a backup, the app's data comes back with it. If you can't make a backup, save your entries with "Export journal" first.
Pricing and subscription
How long is the free period?
Everything is free for 7 days from the day you start your first interview. No sign-up or payment method is needed. From day 8 a monthly plan is required, and the app cannot be used until you subscribe, but you are never charged automatically when the free period ends. A notification reminds you one day before it ends.
How much is the monthly plan?
It is an Apple subscription that renews automatically every month. The price is shown on the purchase screen in the app.
How do I manage or cancel it?
Open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, choose "Subscriptions," select Omakase Journal, and cancel. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, the next period is charged. After cancelling, you can keep using the app until the end of the period you have paid for.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Apply through Apple's "Report a Problem" page. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
What happens to my subscription on a new iPhone?
Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you used to buy it, and tap "Restore purchases" in the app's Settings.
Connecting ChatGPT
What does it do?
If you connect your own ChatGPT, a short summary of what you talked about there that day becomes one more clue for your diary. Connecting is optional. The app never sends your diary to ChatGPT.
How do I connect it?
Open "Connect ChatGPT" in Settings and follow the steps. In short, you enter the six-digit code shown in the app (valid for 10 minutes) on the ChatGPT side, then send ChatGPT one sentence. ChatGPT's screens and features can change at OpenAI's discretion.
The summary isn't arriving.
Keep the "Connect ChatGPT" screen open. It checks the connection every few seconds and shows the current state. If it says "Almost there," you still need to send ChatGPT that one sentence. ChatGPT can only summarize the conversations it is able to see, so a day with little conversation gives a short summary.
I want to disconnect.
Tap "Disconnect" on the "Connect ChatGPT" screen, and the connection information, requests and summaries on our server are all deleted. "Disconnect and delete received summaries" also deletes the summaries saved on your iPhone. Please also remove the connection in ChatGPT's own settings.
Contact
If these answers don't solve it, or you want to report a problem or make a request, please email us. We read every message and reply in order.
If your email app doesn't open, write to rihito@mamama.company.
When reporting a problem, it helps if you include:
- Your iPhone model and iOS version
- The app version (shown at the bottom of Settings)
- What you were trying to do, what happened, and how to reproduce it
Please don't send your diary text or your Apple ID password. If you send a screenshot, cover anything you don't want us to see.
